In recent days, temperatures in Spain, France, Italy and other countries have soared above 47°C. Authorities have declared a red alert, schools have been closed, and events have been canceled. In France, the top step of the Eiffel Tower has been closed to visitors due to extremely high temperatures.
In Italy, 18 cities have been declared red alert levels, and power grids are overloaded.
In Switzerland, a nuclear power plant had to be temporarily shut down because the temperature of the water in the rivers used for cooling was too high.
High temperatures have caused large-scale forest fires in the following countries:

Fires have also been recorded in Spain, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
